Such a time as this

There are a number of words I hope to share over the next few months or so, but an article written recently here started me thinking again.  It is indeed a battle that we are in – whether we choose to acknowledge it or not.  We can choose to retreat to our comfy castles and hope to avoid the storm, but it will not avail us.

The signs are there – we have seen the storms that are coming and they will rattle us out of our false security. There is, as ever, only one resting place and that is Jesus.  We are given, by the grace of the Lord, time in which to prepare.  Or time to pretend that everything will stay the same.

The storms to come will bring both adversity and revival, persecution and blessing.  When our false securities are stripped away, so we will have to lean on our real Security.  Or dance away to other false gods.  Indeed, the very storm that will appear a curse will produce the greatest blessing – when we have eyes to see it.

So be of good heart.  The devil does not have the final say.  He lost – and lost a long, long time ago.  All the smoke and mirrors, all the thunder and lightening, all the fierce roaring and raging are no more than the death throes of a wounded beast.

Even when the storm rages around you, when you are beset all around and the devil seems to hold all the cards from an unassailable position, remember it is simply a lie.  He is a usurper apeing God.  He has lost, and he knows it.  His time is short, and getting shorter.

God has already procured the victory.  The gates of hell will never prevail against the Church, His elect.  Yes, the storm may rage, but press into Jesus and there you will find the victory, the victory that was won before the ages ever began.

The meaning of listening

I’m not going to spend a whole lot of time on this one, but I’d like to at least make the point.

Many of those on the liberal side of our Anglican culture wars complain about not being listened to – that we will not hear their arguments and experiences (in particular listening to the experiences of GBLT Christians).  The reality often is that they have been listened to, and the arguments found wanting. Anyway, that’s a whole topic in itself.

The point I want to make is that listening, talking and dialogue to liberals often appear to be verbs with a one-way direction.  What they actually mean by them is that you will listen to us.  I have seen that happen multiple times on this site: http://www.frjakestopstheworld.blogspot.com/

When a conservative commenter makes arguments that cut a little too close to the bone they are asked to leave, or just have comments deleted.  Note that this is not deletion due to discourtesy, it’s simply due to thoughtcrimes.  Apparently some liberal ears are too delicate to hear conservative thoughts. Should you believe that, you’ll believe anything.  See this: http://www.haloscan.com/comments/terry137/115873105209107649/#361918 as the latest example.

Fr Jake can do what he likes with his own site; I have no complaints there.  However, those actions reveal the hypocrisy behind the whole ‘listening’ thing.

Well anyway, I’ve had my rant.  Back to posting what I really wanted to post today….

Welcome to CaNN readers

I’m not exactly sure how Binky the web elf supremo, head honcho, numero uno, big cheese etc etc etc manages to do it, but within a week of this blogs’ inception he and his super-efficient intelligence department has linked to me.  One has to wonder if he ever sleeps? 😉

Seeing as I see a little spike in traffic now (which wasn’t that hard to accomplish, heh) I though I’d better say a little ‘hi and welcome’.

Since (as I mentioned) I’m currently on holiday in what is proving to be the warmer side of the rockies, blogging may sometimes give way to more holidayish type activities. Normal service (whatever that is) will be restored come October.  However I’ll be popping in from time to time to give you the possibly dubious benefit of my wisdom on the increasingly odd times in which we live.

Blessings,

Peter

TTFN – maybe

Off on holiday to British Columbia for a while.  I think the place I’m staying at has internet, in which case I’ll be back.  If not, it’ll be an internet fast for a while.  Will I cope?  Hard to know, hard to know…..

UPDATE:  I’m back….for my fast growing, dynamic and loyal readership.  Ahem.

Ichabod

Want to know what informs my heart mostly within the current Anglican strife?  This does:

Ichabod
June 2004

I saw a mid sized tree (or possibly a large bush) with only bare brown branches. The tree was dead, and represented to me the apostate church.  Springing from the same ground, a little to one side, was a strong shoot, green and sprouting.  This represented the new church that is being brought forth to life.  I saw the potential that this shoot had, to become a strong vibrant tree, full of flowers and fruit.

This acted as a reinforcement of my current feeling that God is dividing the Church – not just letting it be divided, but actively making it happen, indeed using those with a liberal agenda to His purposes.  The dead tree is ‘ichabod’ – the Glory has departed.  The structure is still there, and indeed may take some time to decay, but the Glory is there no more.  I am left with the impression that investing any more time in this structure is futile, a waste of time.  Rather, we should be considering the growth of what God is raising up.  It has a real potential, but it’s still potential now, we need to be obedient in being grown.  Don’t concentrate on the birth pains, concentrate on what is being born!

Our main attitide should be humility and repentance at this time. We are fools if we think we are the righteous ones. More on that later perhaps…..

The spirit of the age

This is a key prophecy – received in January 2004.

This prophecy is not going to be easy to hear.
Neither is it any easier to speak.
However, the spirit of the age will be addressed.
You have all heard the Lamb.  Now hear the Lion of Judah!

This is the message that the Lord is bringing to the Church:

I am the Lord your God.  I see all hearts and discern all purposes.  Nothing is hidden from Me.  I know your ways and all your plans.  I Love you.  You bear My Name.  You are the people of My pasture.  And behold, I am doing a new thing.

I see this land, this culture.  It is rich, fat and bloated.  You lack nothing!  Everything is provided for, and yes, in abundance!  I see the gods of money, of avarice, of greed and lust stretching their tentacles throughout this land.  New temples to other gods are raised, and people worship in them.  I know the evil that dwells here.  You think you are rich!  But your eyes are blind!  Foolish people – look again and see what I see.

Yes – you are part of this!  You live both in it, and of it.  And I call you out!  You must not live this way.  You are temples of the Holy Spirit, so why then do you worship in the temples of Babylon?  Do you not see it?  Well then, I the Lord will declare it for you.  The land is corrupt and evil, there is no knowledge or love of God.  Each person goes their own way, and they do what pleases them.  They will reap what they have sown!  I the Lord have spoken!

But yet I am not willing that any should perish.  So, wake up.  Listen, for I have called you into a new way.  I have called you out, and my word will not return to me empty.  You are a Holy and a Royal people.  Do you not know it?  You bear my Name, on your heads and in your hearts, and I am not willing that any one of you should perish.

Listen!  For a new wave will flood across this land.  I the Lord your God have spoken!  A new harvest awaits, as My Spirit washes anew throughout this land.  But look, the ground is rough, rocky and unprepared.  Where can I plant My harvest?  Where is the soil ready for it?  Precious few places are ready.  So then, make haste, lest the Day of the Lord come and take you unaware.

You must have love, one for another, the true image of My love.  Why do I see shallow life amongst you?  Do you doubt?  Do you not truly believe?  Do you think the Lords arm is too short?  Can He not provide all your needs, yes, and more?  What do you say?  Will you contend with Me?

I command you, grow in love and fellowship with Me and one another.  Build a true community of believers.  One that will withstand the coming storm, one that will pass the test of the Rock of Ages.  Come!  Will you not trust in Me?

I tell you the truth, nothing will change until you are transformed into my image.  Nothing will change until you are removed from the company of the harlot.  But if you are willing, I will work such a change amongst you, that you will be left awed in My power.  Do you think I cannot do it?  Test me, and see, for the Lord is good.

You have insurance, you have wealth.  Many indeed are your barns.  But they will not save you in the Day of the Lord.  Trust in the One who can save.

Can you have any gods before Me?  Can anything stand in My presence?  Foolish people!  Do you think you can claim God and mammon both?  Have you not read, do you not understand?  You cannot serve both Gods.  I the Lord your God am a jealous God and I will stand no other.  I will tolerate no idols in my presence.  Does light have fellowship with darkness?  No!

You ask, so what are our gods?  You know, and I know.  There is no change, unless it be that you are ‘richer’ still.  How many coats must you have?  Two are no longer enough, you must have yet more.  Rid yourself of these!  Put out all greed, lust, avarice and the wicked love of money.  See, I call you to a new thing!

Repent!  For I know your sins, the unregenerate places in your hearts.  I know what lies cold and dead.  I am the Lord who can still make dry bones live!  So arise!  Put these things out of your hearts, and repent.  Am I not the Lord who saved you, who died for you?  I can and will rescue you from the miry pit.  I will set your feet on solid rock, and I will give you a hope and future.

What must you do?  Trust and obey me.  Leave behind your old life, and turn to the new that I will give you.

So then my people, I call you out.  I set before you two paths.  The broad, gentle, easy path that leads to destruction.  Or the narrow path, the hard path, the rocky mountainous path that leads to the city of God.  Do not be deceived!  It is not easy.  It was never intended to be easy.  It is not a path you can follow in your own strength.  But you will have all that you need for the journey.  My Spirit Himself will nurture you.

Now is the day of the Lord!  Now are my purposes and plans come to fruition.  I will move upon this land again and my elect will hear My call.

I the Lord your God have spoken and I call you out!
