I did say that it was possible that my Meteorological past would make a foray into this blog from time to time. This happens to be one of those times. π
We in Alberta are about to witness an interesting weather event. You wouldn’t know it from Saturday, as temperatures rose to a balmy 3C (37F) here in Calgary. Sunday, however, is a different story. We’re about to get hit by a very intense Arctic front courtesy of the Siberian
High coming for a visit.
I thought this map of early next week might give you an idea, you don’t have to be a Meteorologist to get the gist:
As an Accuweather blogger put it here, this is the kind of thing Calgary is likely to see this Sunday…
8am Sunday…….-3 celsius (26 F) and partly cloudy
11am Sunday……-5 celsius (23 F) as the Arctic front arrives, wind picks up with some light snow.
Noon Sunday…….-10 celsius (14 F), windy with moderate to heavy snow and blowing snow.
2 pm Sunday…….-16 celsius (3 F), light to moderate snow and blustery.
5 pm Sunday…….-23 celsius (-9 F), light snow.
9 pm Sunday……..-26 celsius (-15 F), light snow.
Noon Monday…….-29 celsius (-20 F), flurries.
Temperatures could fall to -36 to -38 celsius (-32 to -36 F) Monday night and early Tuesday morning!
It’s always fun here in Alberta. π
Brrrrrrrrrr!!!!!
And I thought it was cold here! Wow.
Stay safe, your heart warmed by the Spirit’s fire, and kept in the Fathers care!
Blessings to you all!
Susan

And after you’re done messing with it you send it off to Manitoba. And to think I moved from Iqaluit to Brandon because the weather was supposed to be better.

You can keep it. I do recall one winter here when my diesel car wouldn’t start for three weeks because the temps were consistently around -40.

Calgary often has wild swings in weather within a few hours, but it could be worse. The “Siberian front” about to hit Calgary has already hit the North. Right now in Whitehorse (Sun 8 am), it’s -33. The forecast calls for lows of -30 or below for the next five days.
This is my 20th winter in Whitehorse and, I’m happy to say, my last, God willing.

Susan – Yes, it’s a tad parky out right now. OK, it’s seriously nasty – not a night to be out in – not at least if you want to be alive come the morning. Currently it is -27c (-17F), N gusting to 54km/h making it feel like -43c (-45F). There’s an extreme wind chill warning out, and I hope and pray that all the street folks have found a place for the next few days as a matter of life and death.
Prairiewords / Kate – But we like to send it out to you folks, we know you appreciate it π
Scott- Yup, can’t hold a candle to you N of 60!
Wendy – Ah yes, Edmonton looks as bad as us right now (and as an aside I will reply to your email soon I hope!)
